Along Via Appia

Appius Claudius Caecus, a Roman censor and consul, began the building of the via Appia (the Appian way) in 312 B.C. during the Samnite Wars. The first section of the road led to Capua, starting from Rome. Later, the Romans prolonged the road until the port of Brundisium (Brindisi) in 264 B.C..
In the surrounding of Rome, along the road -following the Romans’ use – tombs, monuments and villas were built . Even a circus, that one of Maxentius (the Constantine’s opponent) was built along the road at the beginning of the 4th century A.D..

Brixia

(m.v.) – Brixia (antico nome di Brescia) era il principale centro dei Galli Cenomani che, nell’ambito dell’espansione romana nella Gallia citeriore, divennero Socii Foederati di Roma nel 194 a.C.. Brixia divenne Municipio romano intorno al 41 a.C. ed infine, sotto Augusto, fu trasformata amministrativamente in colonia col nome di Colonia Civica Augusta Brixia. Il Capitolium fu costruito dall’imperatore Vespasiano nel 73 d.C..
